The last time I went to Dandenong Pavilion, was more than 3 years ago. It was when I first started the Great Burger Caper, and to be honest was only just starting to find my feet, so to speak, trying and comparing different burgers. Therefore, I was so pleased to finally be getting back to try out their burgers again and this time, with a much greater appreciation for what makes up a good burger.

I still love that you have to ask for the secret burger menu!! And this time, I decided to order “The Glasser” burger – two beef patties, melted double cheddar cheese, maple bacon, battered onion rings, pickles, homemade relish & American mustard in a brioche bun, and given I wanted to make the most of my long awaited visit, I added a Mac & cheese croquette too!

My excitement level was high as I waited for my meal, and finally it arrived. This burger looked good. Very good! And it had a taste to back it up too. The meat was amazing and full of so much flavour. The bacon and relish were divine. The mac n cheese topped it off perfectly and the brioche bun was one of the best. This was a seriously good burger and I loved every bite of it too!

Chips on the side were good, and when it was all washed down with a pint of Furphy, the package was complete!

Put simply, if you’re looking for a great burger experience, then I suggest you make your way to “the Pav” – you won’t regret it!!

After a long gap between burgers, I was super excited to be finally getting back out for a burger and had arranged to meet someone at “The Fish & Burger Co.” in Doncaster. This place has been on my list for a while, so I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, as soon as I arrived, the person I was meeting had a mini emergency to attend to and had to leave suddenly. Without wanting the trip to be a waste, I pushed on with my burger adventure all by myself.

I ended up ordering the “Mac Daddy” which came with 150g grass fed brisket patty, American cheddar, bacon, lettuce, Mac & cheese croquette, Spanish onion, pickles, mustard, mayo and to top it off, I decided to add some fried chicken to the mix too! This was a very tidy looking burger and I couldn’t wait to get stuck into it.

The beef was really tasty, and combined well with the fried chicken too. Mac n cheese and bacon were also really good. However, the flavour of the mayo was average and there was way too much of it, which took over the taste of the burger. I would have preferred caramelised onion, rather than red onion too.

Chips on the side were ok, and this time I tried out their in house Craft Pale Ale too. According to the label, it was “made with passion, crafted with love”, although it didn’t really hit the spot for me.

Overall, the experience was ok, and I certainly wasn’t completely disappointed, yet at the same time, I also wasn’t blown away either. It was one of those burgers that I would say is worthwhile trying out yourself.

I met some friends for lunch recently in Southbank, and when it was suggested that we simply go to a “beer café”, I was onboard as I knew that the likelihood of the menu containing a burger was high! We headed to the closely located, Belgian Beef Café in Southbank and despite the extensive menu, for me, the choice was easy!

I ordered “the Belgian Beef Burger” which came with char grilled black Angus beef pattie, smokey bacon, tasty cheese, tomato, lettuce, chilli pickles, Dijon mustard and dill mayonnaise on a brioche burger bun. It was also another “hold the beetroot” moment and I took the suggestion on the menu to “add fried egg” for $2.

This was an impressive looking burger. It stood tall and looked like it had been constructed well, with hardly any ingredients hanging out at all. After waiting the regulation, “cooling off time” I picked it up and got stuck into it. The beef was ok, although a little mushy for my tastes. I was glad I added the fried egg as it was spot on and went perfectly with the delicious bacon. Pickles were nice but there were way too many of them and it took over the taste of the burger a bit. Mayo was ordinary and the lettuce had some kind of vinaigrette dressing on it which didn’t compliment the burger at all.

Onion rings and chips on the side were both average, and the waiter chose a “Dancing Pony” beer on tap to compliment the meal.

Overall, a below average experience. The burger had potential but just had too many things going against it. Otherwise, it would still be a good place to relax with a few drinks and enjoy the usual pub favourites such a Parma or steak.

Do you think onion rings are better than chips on the side?
