It was the weekend before Halloween and Spooktober was on in St Kilda, so being in need of a good scare, I got along to find out what it was all about. On my way there, I walked right past Ziggys Eatery in Balaclava and knew straight away where I was going for a late dinner. Getting my scare on certainly built up my appetite, and afterwards I headed straight to Ziggys for my well earned burger fix!
Last time I was at Ziggys was more than 2 and a half years ago, and I remembered having the “Recovery Burger”, which at that time became the new leader on my search for the greatest burger of all time. Understandably, I was super excited to finally ‘get my zig on’ once again. This time I ordered the “Texan Giant”, which came with 250g Beef Burger, Cheese, Tomato, Pickles, Grilled Onion, Lettuce, Aioli and Ziggys sauce. I really wanted to try out their fried chicken and given it had been a ‘long time between burgers’ so to speak, I decided to throw in a piece of their southern fried chicken. I also added some bacon too, simply because bacon just makes everything better!!
It arrived, and “Giant” was right – this was a big burger. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I picked it up, manoeuvred my ingredients a little bit to make sure it was as even as possible, and I got stuck into it. The slightly spicy flavour of the chicken and special sauce was really good and it hit me straight away. The combined taste of the chicken, beef, cheese and bacon were awesome. Bun was soft, tasty and pretty good. There were a few too many pickles for my liking, but that wasn’t a major issue. The only questionable thing was the shape of the piece of chicken as it was long and thin, which made it difficult to have an even distribution of ingredients with each bite. Again, no big issue!
Overall, this was another amazing burger from Ziggys and it validated their previous high score and top of the ladder standing. I would definitely recommend you go there to “get your zig on” and find out for yourself.
