When your favourite song comes on as you walk into a burger joint, it feels like you have walked into the perfect place! That’s what happened recently when I walked into “Meat in the Middle” in Glen Waverley, and “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi started playing. This place had been on my list for quite a while, so I was pleased to be finally trying it out.

After looking through the options of souvlaki’s and burgers, I just couldn’t go past “The Old School” burger – a burger with the lot. It came with a 140 gram Angus beef patty, lettuce, tomato, cooked onions, pineapple, a fried egg, melted cheddar cheese, bourbon BBQ and tomato sauce on a brioche bun, and of course, “hold the beetroot!”. As I waited, I was treated to another hit of Bon Jovi mastery – “Raise Your Hands” live. What was happening here?? Bon Jovi and burgers! Was it Christmas in July maybe? Could this end up being the best burger of all? – just like a kid at Christmas, I couldn’t wait to find out!

The burger looked good when it arrived, and I picked it up straight away to get stuck into it. Unfortunately, this was a fairly average tasting burger. The meat was soft, mushy and lacked flavour. It tasted like it was mixed with sausage meat and boiled not grilled or something?! The tomato was only one small piece, that was almost as thick as the patty. The sauces were ok but added to the overall mushiness, and the bun was soaked in so much butter, yet was crispy on the outside?! I didn’t know what was going on?!  And it needed bacon! An “old school” burger with the lot, must have bacon! It would also have added some much needed crispiness to the burger too.

Chips on the side were really, really good, and I was pleased to also enjoy one of my favourite beers too – Furphy!

Overall, a disappointing experience, especially as though I had heard good things about it previously. However, when I finished I still thought it was ok, but that might have been the good music playing with my sub-conscious more than anything else. From my perspective, if you are looking for a good burger in Glen Waverley, I would cross the street and head to Mocha Jo’s or Yo My Goodness instead.
