On another beautifully sunny day in Melbourne recently, I was fortunate enough to get out and about for lunch and this time I headed to a place called “Mammys Boy Chip Shop” in St Kilda. This place is located right near Luna Park, and I had heard plenty of good things, so was really keen to try it out for myself.
There are a few burgers on the menu, and despite wanting to “mix n match”, probably with an extra patty or some fried chicken, I decided to stick with the traditional option and order direct from the menu, the way it was intended. I ordered the “Daddy’s Boy” which came with beef, bacon, battered onion ring, cheddar, lettuce and ballymaloe relish.
I was excited about this burger and when it arrived, it actually didn’t look like much, but then I took a bite…… awesome! The beef was really tasty, and the best part was actually the bacon. It was really crispy, and worked perfectly with the battered onion ring and the other ingredients too. Each of the flavours all seemed to contrast each other, which is what made it work so well and nothing was over powering either. Relish was on point and not too sweet, the bun withstood the test and chips on the side were delightful too. My only regret was that I didn’t throw in a second patty for double the action!
This was a really good burger that I highly recommend, so if you’re in the area, stop in and find out for yourself. I’d like to get back and try some of their Southern Fried Chicken next time!!
