Unbelievably, it has been over 3 weeks since my last burger adventure!! How have I survived?? Ugh!! Sooooooooo, I was super excited to get out today and try something new. I headed to a place with an interesting name – “Babu BarBurger with Balls” in Chapel Street, Windsor. Yes, you read that correctly!
This place is basic, casual and played plenty of classic rock like The Doors and Fleetwood Mac, so my initial impressions were good. There are plenty of burgers on the menu (almost too many) and “building” your own is encouraged. There are 8 “favourites” on the menu, and there are some interesting ingredients on some of them, including camembert, goat cheese and eggplant?! Hmmmmmm…… I was very quick to question the title of “favourites”?!
Anyway, you can choose from 3 different sized patties – 150, 220 or 300 grams! I was pretty hungry, but given it was lunch went the 220 gram option. All the burgers are served with lettuce, tomato, pickle and (red) onion. I went the “Number 1” which included cheese, bacon and egg.
Firstly, why do some places insist on serving burgers “open”?? It makes me feel like the chef is too lazy to finish putting it together!! Anyway, once I got things sorted, I started to get into it, however this burger was average at best. The patty was kind of spicy tasting and the pickle and red onion were too over powering. The extremely runny egg and dripping fat made for a messy experience too!
Luckily, the fries on the side were awesome and the cold Corona helped wash everything down too!!
Turns out that the name and the good tunes being played were the best part! Also, after eating, I understood why a burger joint on Chapel Street at lunchtime only had a few people there!
