It was the end of the working week, and the lunch bells were ringing. It had been almost 2 weeks since my last burger, so of course I had a massive craving for a tasty burger. I decided to head to a reasonably new place in Boronia that was on my burger bucket list, called “Meat n Bun”.
This place is located in the Boronia Junction amongst a supermarket and other small take away shops. The menu is filled with burgers, souvlaki’s, fried chicken and shakes. Whilst I was in the mood for some fried chicken, I decided to go with the “MNB Double”, which came with double beef, double American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion, house special sauce and gherkin relish. Plus I added a fried egg to it too.
There was a small wait, and I became more and more hungry with every passing minute. Finally the burger arrived. It was massive and looked good too. I couldn’t wait to get stuck into it. However, the first problem was that I couldn’t really squash it down. The patties and bun were thick, solid and had no give in them at all. It was hard to get my mouth around it, which did present an eating challenge. The meat was quite tasty, but was pressed so firmly, it made for a very heavy feed. The other ingredients were pretty good, especially the bacon and egg, but definitely not the weedy, rocket lettuce! Ugh!! The special sauce was good too, but there was just way too much of it and it drowned the overall taste. Finally, the bun was not good either. Having said that, I did get to choose the type of bun (Grill’d style) – white or brioche, and I did decide to go white. It was dry and kind of tough, so it ripped apart with each bite.
Chips on the side were really nice, and so was the chocolate shake. Overall, the experience was “okay”, and I did enjoy it. Next time, I would like to try their fried chicken and will definitely go the brioche bun too!!
