Found myself at one of my favourite local haunts recently, and in need of a burger fix – of course! Tommy Ruff Fish Bar in Elsternwick serve up some of the best fish n chips around, in a relaxed, friendly environment, and whilst I have had their burger many times before, on this day I was feeling extra hungry and wanted something a bit more than the usual.
I ordered the usual “Sinker Burger” which comes with 100% Aussie Angus beef, BTL, cheese, onions, egg and pickles. I decided to build it up and made it a double patty with double cheese too! This is one of the best looking burgers, with fresh ingredients and a soft bun that has a shiny glaze about it too!
The burger has a distinctive, “home made” taste to it that is hard to not appreciate. The meat is tasty and the combination of other flavours works really well together. The double patty was a good move too, as it gave it that heavier, meatier taste to it. Also, I can’t put my finger on it, but for some reason the egg always tastes amazing in this burger – must be something they feed their chickens?! The only criticism on this occasion was that the meat was slightly over cooked, otherwise the experience would have been even better. I’m putting it down to a once off!
This burger is definitely above the usual “fish n chip shop” level and has become a solid, quality feed that you can rely on. They are in Mordialloc too, so put it on your list to try out for yourself, you won’t regret it!

that does look like a typical fish and chip shop burger meat does look slightly over done – even I would try that! WHAT !! (I hear you say ) But without the double pattie and double cheese instead ADD BEETROOT lol
thanks for taking the time to comment G! That’s 2 burgers in recent times that you have said you would try. Time to step up to the plate and take a swing I think!? Let me know where you decide to go, although I wouldn’t ruin it with beetroot!! lol
