The beautiful sunshine yesterday fuelled my craving for a burger and beer, so I headed down to a favourite place of mine, Tommy Ruff Fish Bar in Elsternwick. This is a unique “fish n chip” dining experience where you can eat in or take away. The casual surrounds, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff make for a great start.
Now, whilst I have had the burger here a number of times before, yesterday it seemed to be packing something very special. Perhaps it was the combo of the good weather and cold beer, but I certainly didn’t leave disappointed!
I went direct to the “Sinker Burger” – an Angus beef patty, with the lot, ie BLT, cheese, egg, onion and pickles. The burger was perfectly put together and clearly had been “made with love”, which provided a clean, non-sloppy eating experience – also helped by the absence of pineapple and beetroot! The patty is super good, and the burger also has a tomato relish on it that really enhances the flavour. Overall, it has a real “home made” taste to it, which places it well above your average fish n chip shop burger.
Chips on the side, delivered in their own little frying basket, and washed down with a few “Tommy Ruff” locally brewed beers made for a great experience.
This is a solid burger that is sure to hit the spot and definitely worth a visit, especially as the weather gets better! There is also a Tommy Ruff in Mordialloc.
